DESIGN BUILD

During this Design Build Project, our group undertook a two-month project for "We The People Farm". We focused on creating an innovative tomato crate with improved stacking and stability features. Through collaborative efforts, we researched, designed, and constructed a crate that addressed the client's need for efficient storage and transportation of tomatoes.

Our project began with an in-depth exploration of We The People Farm's requirements and the challenges they faced with their current tomato crate design. With a clear goal of enhancing stacking and stability, we brainstormed and refined ideas to develop a unique solution.

During the design phase, we iteratively created prototypes, incorporating elements that improved the crate's ability to stack securely while maintaining stability. Factors such as crate dimensions, interlocking mechanisms, and material choices were carefully considered to ensure a practical and functional design.

The construction phase involved using our woodworking and fabrication skills to build 60 innovative tomato crates from scratch. We paid special attention to the precision of joinery and assembly techniques to achieve the desired stacking and stability outcomes. Regular communication and feedback loops with the client ensured that our design aligned with their preferences.

The culmination of our efforts was a final presentation and delivery to We The People Farm, where we showcased the features and benefits of our innovative tomato crate. Our design process, including research, prototyping, and construction, highlighted our dedication to addressing the stacking and stability challenges faced by the client.

Throughout this project, we gained hands-on experience in design thinking, practical construction, and effective client collaboration. Our solution demonstrated not only our creativity and technical skills but also our commitment to meeting real-world agricultural needs.
